Background
A supplier of recreational and hunting equipment manufactures various types of gear used by naturalists, hikers, hunters and sportsmen. Since the products are typically used outdoors, they must withstand the various forces of nature, including rain and or snow.
Problem:
A major component to the product referenced above consists of a durable, plastic box. The box is supplied by a plastic molding company. However, various electronic components and other hardware must be added to the box. To do this, 30 holes/cutouts needed to be precisely machined into the box.
Solution:
Raybold devised various templates and tooling to allow for the drilling and punching of holes/cutouts quickly and accurately. The plastic boxes are dropped shipped to Raybold and Raybold fabricates and ships the finished boxes to the customer to meet its delivery requirements.
Major product features:
- Boxes were dropped shipped to Raybold, minimizing shipping costs.
- Raybold supplied the plastic box complete with 30 holes and cutouts to allow for component assembly.
- Special tooling and fixtures were designed for cost-effective drilling and punching.
Equipment Utilized:
- Various drill presses.
- Punch Press.
- Bridgeport Milling Center.
- NC Router
